Enjoy the most popular Illumination Festival in Canada in Niagara Falls as we capture the winter’s magic.

In 1982, the Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights was established. With over 1 million annual visitors, we are today delighted to be the largest lighting festival in Canada and the most prestigious in all of North America.

Recognition

The Winter Festival of Lights has grown into one of North America’s largest and most recognized holiday light shows, attracting millions of visitors annually and  hundreds of motor coach tours each year.

Numerous honours from the event and tourist industries have been given to the Festival, including the prestigious Events of Distinction Award from Festivals and Events Ontario, Best Volunteer Program, Top Festival/Event in Ontario, and Most Innovative Partnership (FEO). Additionally, the Winter Festival of Lights has long been acknowledged by the American Bus Association (ABA) as one of its Top 100 Internationally Recognized Events.

Each year the festival is committed to keeping the Niagara Winter Festival of Lights: family friendly, free to attend and open to everyone. So bundle up and celebrate the power of light and community!

History

The Niagara Falls Canada Visitor and Convention Bureau, now known as Niagara Falls Tourism, the City of Niagara Falls, the Niagara Parks Commission, and a number of private businesses in the Niagara Falls tourism industry joined forces to create the Winter Festival of Lights in 1982.

The Festival was started as an effort to lengthen Niagara Falls’ summer-only tourist season, which had existed for more than a century. The Festival’s initial season featured a modest assortment of lights displays close to the Falls that attracted a respectable 250,000 visitors. A trip to Niagara Falls became rapidly a yearly winter tradition for family and friends as the Festival displays evolved and audience sizes increased each year.

Experience the Magic of Niagara Falls Fireworks

Explore Niagara Falls during the 2024 fireworks season, where nature and pyrotechnics come together in a remarkable display. Each evening, from May 17th to October 14th at 10 PM, the sky above the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls will be illuminated with bursting fireworks.

Colorful fireworks display over Niagara Falls on a late summer night.

As night falls, observe the vibrant fireworks lighting up the cascading waters, providing a stunning view. This combination of natural beauty and light show offers a unique experience. Join us to capture the essence of Niagara Falls in a new way.

FIREWORKS SUMMER SCHEDULE 2024

  • May 17th to October 14th, 2024 at 10pm each night.

#1 Along the Niagara Parkway

When the fireworks go off, any location along the Niagara Parkway from the bottom of Clifton Hill to the Table Rock Complex will get you a one-of-a-kind view! The route is fully illuminated along this stretch of the Niagara Parkway to the Horseshoe Falls.

#2 Dino Adventure Golf

The best mini-putt experience in Niagara Falls is Dinosaur Adventure Golf! Play through this dinosaur-filled prehistoric realm to experience an exhilarating and never-to-be-forgotten mini-putting adventure. Dinosaur Adventure Golf enables participants to fully immerse themselves in a fascinating world of the lost, making it the ideal activity for families, friends, couples, or business outings.

#3 Skylon Tower

No matter the season, the Skylon Tower offers fantastic views of the fireworks via 775 feet up in the air! Take the elevator up to the Observation Deck, and take in the 360 degree view for miles in every direction. You will get a view of Niagara Falls, the Niagara River, and even the Toronto Skyline and Buffalo on the American side.

#4 Queen Victoria Park

One of the best spots to watch the fireworks is at Queen Victoria Park. The park is expansive, so bring your lawn chairs and settle in for a relaxing evening. During the summer, the park comes alive with vibrant greenery and colorful blooms, making it the perfect backdrop for a warm, magical night under the stars.

#5 Rainbow Bridge

You’ll get a phenomenal view of the fireworks from this standpoint on the Rainbow Bridge. Absolutely no obstructions will be in the picture looking out over the Niagara River between the Canadian and US border. As a pedestrian/bicyclist, make sure you have a Canadian “loonie” $1.00 CAD to cross from the Canadian to American side. There is a coin machine next to the turnstile to make change. You do not show your passport/visa until you arrive on the American side from Canada.

#6 Niagara SkyWheel

The Niagara SkyWheel soars 175 feet above the peak of Clifton Hill, allowing an even higher perspective to look out over the Niagara Falls. This gives you an incredible view of the fireworks show as you rotate. You will need to time yourself to be on the ride when the fireworks occur, so we recommend that you buy tickets and get in line approximately 20 minutes to a half hour before the show begins.

#7 Niagara City Fireworks Night Cruise

Niagara City Cruises offers great views, when you board the Falls Fireworks Cruise. There is nothing that can compare to the sight of fireworks going off over Niagara Falls to make your trip memorable. Take a 40-minute Falls Fireworks Cruise to view Niagara Falls at night, which departs from Canada’s Niagara Falls. Set sail for starry skies, expansive views of the skyline, breathtaking illuminations, and, of course, sky-filling fireworks.

#8 Oakes Garden Theatre

This spectacular garden is the entranceway to Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parks’ centerpiece that showcases the Falls. Located at the foot of Clifton Hill, this is the perfect spot for a superb panoramic view of the American and Horseshoe Falls. This spectacular garden is the entranceway to Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parks’ centerpiece that showcases the Falls.

Prepare to be captivated by the Falls Fireworks Series, a renowned event presented by Niagara Parks that showcases over 100 dazzling fireworks displays annually.

Memorial Day, typically held on the last Monday of May (Monday, May 27th, 2024) in the United States, holds a significant place in the nation’s history. Originally known as Decoration Day, it emerged after the American Civil War to honor the brave Union soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Victoria Day Facts and Information

Victoria Day is a Canadian Public Holiday that takes place annually on the last Monday preceding May 25th. The holiday exists to honour Queen Victoria’s birthday who was the reigning Queen when Canada became its own country in 1867, but the holiday has been around and celebrated even before Canada was officially a country! Canada continues to celebrate it in various ways across the land, on a specific Monday in May. In Quebec, the same day was, since the Quiet Revolution, unofficially known as Fête de Dollard until 2003, when provincial legislation officially named the same date as Victoria Day the National Patriots’ Day. Additionally, it’s a statutory holiday for six of Canada’s ten provinces and three of its territories.

Queen Victoria Day

Not only is it celebrated here in Canada, but also in Scotland. For many of us Canadian’s, Victoria Day means that the summer season is just around the corner which is cause for great celebration… winter in Canada is no joke! When the Queen died in 1901, the parliament declared that her legacy is celebrated at the end of May.
